Great argument against another Polisario-Morocco war

A picture of the decayed body of a Moroccan soldier. It's sobering to think that all the talk about Polisario's ability to threaten war or Morocco's plans to invade the liberated zone comes down to corpses buried in sand.

The accompanying article has a good article about the voyeurism and shame of being a war correspondent.

hello every body special greetings to will, van kass and ax and for all moroccan comenting on this blog, van kass am sorry i did not understand dutch but thank you for the efforts you and ax who craeted an italian blog thank you all.concerning the photograph and the article i think it will be more and more scary photos in the future if Morocco does not respect our legal right in self-determination Morocco ignorance of our right will cause a longest war that will be more violent that that of the 70's.so it's time for mohamd 6 and his advisors to yield to the sahrawi people willing.

  3. As far as I know there is little news in dutch on mr. van Walsum. We have only some news on a Dutch-Moroccan trade mission currently under way. And some news on Morocco joining NATO operation Active Endeavor.

  4. I sadly feel that patience is a rare virtue. Sahrawi People has already showed to the world how virtuous they are.

I'll never have a word of guiltiness for the Frente Polisario if they use the last chance to recover freedom.

  5. That's lame that Morocco's doing something with NATO, van Kaas. Here's a question for those of you who've been around longer than I have: was there ever talk about Morocco joining NATO? I could see it.

Devotee, I think you're right that abysmal things like that picture will happen to both Sahrawis and Moroccans if there's no referendum on self-determination. Like AX said, though, it really getting to be almost Polisario's last chance. If only Algeria had some sort of hydrocarbons to fund a lobbying campaign...

thank you VAN KASS for the demonstration in front of the moroccan embassy you are really doing well for our sahara,AX for the first time i thought that you are a sahraoui especially when i saw the picture but when visited your blog believe me i was shocked when i descovered that you are an italian, really am feeling glad to meet young people from all over the world defending the same cause that's one of the advantages of the internet.

  7. i can assure that everyone here in the occupied zone of western sahara want the polisario frent to begain the war as fast as possible people are sick of the current situation and of the the games that Morocco is playing on the UN and on the international comunity and the majority of people here think that the direct talks at manhaset are just a waste of time and that Morocco shall never accept the referendum by negotiations but by guns and the majority said that they are ready to carry their weapons to defend their sahara unlike the polisario politicians who seemed so patient in their dealing with the Moroccan and the use of the paper of war is becoming useless because we need a more rigid reaction but i think it is the game of politics against the right so shall win?

  9. Working with people across the world on the internet is sweet! Van Kaas did a demo? If so, is it this post?

    http://vankaas.blogspot.com/2008/05/nederlandsmarokkaanse-verslaggeving.html

Dev, I wrote about that van Walsum thing in the post about you! I understand your eagerness to end the dispute with war, but I think Sahrawis and Moroccans both will be better served through peaceful resolution.

  10. Morocco joined a NATO naval operation called Active Endeavour lately but also other non-NATO countries have been asked to join in the framework of the NATO Mediterranean Dialogue like Israël, Algeria Egypt and Mauretania. Morocco is the first to join - maybe because of a bad conscience?

The demonstration in front of the Moroccan embassy was because of the prisoners of Boumalne Dades. This is not directly related to Western Sahara, but is to human rights in Morocco.

  11. Hi DEv!

I'm not an Italian but a Spaniard! who cares... I'm living in Italy nowadays

I used to wear draas in the Occupied Territories for two main reasons:

1st: looking like a Sahrawi gives you a little of peace (Moroccan policemen do not like Europeans in El Aaiun --wrote in the spanish/polisario way instead the Moroccan/French Laayoune--).

2nd: Draa --malhfas for women-- is the only "Sahrawi flag" you can freely show there! (sure you'd feel proud of wearing it)

P.S: Draa is more Sahrawi than the clothes I wear in the pic (dev please remember me that name). The turban must be black and much longer than the blue (Mauritanian I guess) I have in that pic, but for wearing the black one you must be an expert in "rolling" turbans!!

    ;-)

    AX 13:24

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks for the explanation, VK. AX, how long were you in the occupied territories?

When you were talking about the name for the female version of what you wore, I thought you were telling us you cross-dressed to avoid harassment from police. Little scandal.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've been there for a month (I'll try to go again this summer).

The whole territory in under siege Will, you can feel the fear, the repression in the air. Imagine that all mobile phones are spied and if you try to call from the hotel there's no way to make zero to have line: you have to give the number to the receptionist to dial it!!

Giant posters of Mohammed (such a kitsch king wearing old-fashioned sunglasses Miami-Vice type) are in every corner, in every round-about, controlled for paid Moroccans to avoid egg-launching... all the towns are full of Moroccan flags...

Policemen aren't discreet at all, they stress you by making them visible, more and more visible if you are not in the "right" neighbourhood. They control you at least three times a day (more if you're travelling) asking the same boring questions: passport, profession, what the hell are you doing here, where do you go... They know that you know that every policeman (police and gendarmes) in Morocco and WS know who you are and all the rest of the stuff... Outside the cities it's easier because most of them try to rub you by inventing contraventions (no matter what you do the amount is always 400 dirham that's around 40 euro, not so much for me but a real nightmare for poor Moroccans and Sahrawis).

Have you ever felt like living in Orwell's 1984?

    AX 23:25h.

P.S: It's horrible to stay there, unless for the support your visit gives to Sahrawis, be sure they'd pay you back with everything they have (milk, perfume, juices, meat, bed... and lots of tea and affection)

  14. hi SAHARA LIBRE TORINO and VAN KASS and WILL i think sahara libre had experienced being in the occupied zone of western sahara and being under daily police supervision and repression but what makes you forget every bad thing is the warmness of sahrawi people either at home or outside,am really glad to know that you wear a daraa in Aaiun with the long black turban and if you are planing to come to Aaiun this summer i hope that you accept my invitation to host you to live whithin my family and to guide you throught Aaiun streets since it is my hometown am inviting you and WILL and VAN KASS to came to visit western sahara you will like it.

  15. i just want to know why sahara libre torino has changed the pic?
i think he will bring a new one with the daraa...aren't you? are you driving a LAND ROVER SANTANA car? about your summer trip to ws i wish you contact me on my email fuertfrente@gmail.com

  16. eventhought i know just fiew words of italian i understand that saharalibretorino blog have been present in a manifestation with the sahrawi flag and defending the right to self determination of people of western sahara that's extremly great Saharalibretorino really thank you so much.but why don't you publish it on will's blog in english i thought it will be so great.or do you want it to be SAHARALIBRETORINO EXCLUSIVE...hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  17. I really want to go to Western Sahara, Devotee. I planned to go last March but fate intervened. Certain people are afraid I'm going to get thrown in a bottomless prison, but I don't think that'd happen.

I have to check out Ax's blog for this supposed "exclusive". No one scoops One Hump! Besides Alle, Vest-Sahara.no, ARSO...

    ReplyDelete
  18. You understood well DEV, we were in the demonstrations against the choice of Israel as honour guest in the Turin's international book fair; we've been also in another massive manifestation (150.000 ppl) on april 25th. Newspapers talked about Polisario flag!

I've changes my pic because Sahara Libre Torino is not just me! This is not a Land Rover Santana but an 20-y-old Japanese 4x4 (you'd see it at the bottom of our blog ;-)

for the English thing... Unfortunately I don't have time to translate (and my English is so poor to write with a minimum of style). Of course if Will is interested in publishing anything from our blog he just have to say it!

(now I'm translating into Italian the honest letter from South African president to Mohammed VI; and two letters for two italian companies that are working in WS contrarily to the International Law; I'm helping our WSRW friends)

thanks for your kind invitation, we'll be in touch!

I would just like to say that Morocco is a great country and many children are being captured in Polisario and brain washed to hate Morocco and America. Have you seen how many dead bodies there are who are moroccan? The Algerians are going in and killing them off slowly, but Algerian shouldnt forget when Morocco helped them in the war against France, women and children would send guns and food in Oujda, border of Algeria. Knowing at any moment if caught they would be killed. How can you forget what Morocco has done for you and then go and kill there women and children and brainwash them. Also Polisario wants to become a communist country?? how can you support that? who ever is supporting communism such as Algeria and cuba are communist themselves.
